KCMO Rush Names Maggie Plas Grassroots Director to Lead U.S. Soccer School at Schools Initiatives and Community Partnerships

KCMO Rush Names Maggie Plas Grassroots Director to Lead U.S. Soccer School at Schools Initiatives and Community Partnerships

KANSAS CITY, MO — KCMO Rush is proud to announce the appointment of Maggie Plas as the club’s new Grassroots Director. In this dual-focused role, Plas will spearhead a major expansion of the club’s community outreach, serving as the primary liaison with U.S. Soccer for the Soccer at Schools programming and a key partner to local Parks and Recreation departments.

"Maggie is the ideal leader to bridge the gap between casual play and organized sport," said Josh Tyler, Club Director at KCMO Rush. "Her mission is simple but vital: get kids moving and keep them moving. By bringing U.S. Soccer’s resources directly into our schools, we are making the game more accessible than ever."

Getting Kansas City Moving

A central pillar of Plas’s role is the management of U.S. Soccer’s Soccer at Schools programs. By working directly with the national governing body, Plas will implement curriculum-based play designed to get more children active. The initiative focuses on removing the "intimidation factor" of organized sports, providing a fun, high-energy environment where kids can build healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Empowering Local Communities

Beyond the schoolyard, Plas will act as a vital resource for Kansas City area Parks and Recreation departments. Recognizing that local parks are the heartbeat of youth sports, she will lead efforts to:

  • Provide Coaching Education: Supporting volunteer coaches and local staff with modern training techniques and player-management tools.
  • Streamline Player Pathways: Helping identify and prepare young athletes who are ready to take the "next step" in their soccer journey, whether that be competitive club play or advanced recreational leagues.
  • Strengthen Infrastructure: Ensuring local programs have the technical support needed to thrive.

"I am incredibly excited to join KCMO Rush and help cultivate the next generation of athletes in Kansas City," said Maggie Plas. "My goal is to ensure every child has a place to play and every local coach has the tools to succeed. Whether a child is kicking a ball for the first time in an afterschool program or preparing for competitive club play, we want to support that journey every step of the way."

About Soccer at Schools

Soccer at Schools is a national effort led by Soccer Forward in partnership with Bank of America to ensure every child can access the joy and benefits of soccer, not just on a team, but where they already are: in school.

Right now, the opportunity to play soccer at school is not available across the country. The result? Missed chances for play, movement, connection, and confidence building, at a time when young people are facing record levels of physical inactivity and mental health challenges.

We believe soccer can help make a difference.

About KCMO Rush:

KCMO Rush is part of Rush Soccer, the largest youth soccer organization in the world. KCMO Rush is  dedicated to building a strong community around our soccer club. More than just developing great soccer players, we strive to nurture great people. We believe in the transformative power of sports, and aim to make a positive impact on our players and their families for the rest of their lives.
